The Big Hole Crossing Restaurant
(406) 689-3800
Wisdom, MT
Located in the beautiful Big Hole Valley, 60 miles from the nearest sidewalk, the Big Hole Crossing Restaurant is a great place to eat at any time of the year!

The restaurant is situated within the Wisdom River Gallery Building. The building was built in 1960 as a mercantile and implement dealer, to service the needs of the local ranchers. Cattle and hay remain the primary economics of the valley. In the 70s and early 80s the building was leased to the US Forest Service. When the Forest Service moved out, the building was bought by Daryll and Kay Jacobson, who have completely renovated the building into a warm environment featuring lots of old barn wood, with comfortable Windsor chairs and a cozy fireplace in the dining room. The Jacobsons run the Wisdom River Gallery in the same building, and guests roam freely
between the gallery and restaurant.

Diane and Dennis Havig moved to Wisdom in 1988. In early 1989, Diane began working in the gallery. The original restaurant in the building was known as Pioneer Mountain Company, owned by Jade Peterson. Between 1989 and 1994, Diane watched the restaurant change hands several times. In 1994, Diane and Dennis decided to take a chance on owning the restaurant themselves, even though they had limited restaurant experience. Diane knew what she liked when she ate out, and wanted to give people the opportunity to eat food that was nutritious as well as delicious. Emphasizing "made from scratch" food, Diane has amassed a collection of great recipes. Some came from the original owners recipes, and many have been added over the years by the restaurants employees, as well as by Diane. Dining at the Big Hole Crossing Restaurant is a warm and homey experience, making you feel a part of the friendly western town.
